Deep tissue massage uses advanced techniques, requiring a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, to affect your musculature and fascia – the connective tissue that runs throughout our bodies. In order to get to the deeper tissues, I first must relax the upper musculature, therefore deep tissue massage is integrated with other techniques to maximize its effectiveness. This form of massage is particularly helpful with chronic muscular pain, injury rehabilitation and reducing inflammation related pains, such as arthritis and tendonitis.

Myofacial Release is a technique used to alleviate facial restrictions which may have been caused by anything from accidents to emotions. Fascia is a connective tissue that is often described with features similar to plastic wrap – when one area is pulled it pulls on the whole piece of plastic wrap – the same is true of fascia. Fascia surrounds muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, and nerves, binding those structures together. Upon locating an area of fascial tension, gentle pressure is applied in the direction of the restriction. Myofascial release can be an effective therapeutic approach when seeking relief from back pain, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, restriction of motion, chronic pain, headaches and more.

Swedish Massage is one of the most common forms of massage that is offered; this may well be because of its versatility and overall relaxing qualities. The use of five basic strokes, all flowing towards your heart, not only stimulates circulation, but breaks down scar tissue adhesions, speeds healing and reduces swelling from injuries, and is designed to energize the body. Additionally, Swedish massage aids in regulating hormones and is the most effective form of massage for reducing high blood pressure readings.

Trigger Point Therapy is designed to alleviate chronic pain, by not only treating the affected area but the area from which the pain is referred from. Applied pressure, to documented trigger points of referred pain, and stretching exercises, relieves muscular pain and dysfunction. Trigger points are found where muscle and connective tissue are highly sensitive to pain when compressed. Pressure on these points can send referred pain to other specific parts of the body. Usually no more than 15 minutes of Trigger point therapy will be done in a single session. Pressure is applied to the trigger point to affect tendon receptors, mechanically disrupting the sensory nerve endings and thereby allowing the muscle to relax and lessen pain. This procedure may be repeated 2 or 3 times until the client reports that the pain has stopped. When the trigger point has been released lengthening and stretching exercises can be very effective as well as further massage of the area to stimulate circulation. It is best after a trigger point therapy treatment to allow the effected area to rest for few days.
